Event Location
The swim section of the aquathlon will be in the Llandudno Swimming Centre. It’s address is
- Mostyn Broadway, Llandudno LL30 1YR
The run section and finish line will be on Llandudno promenade, near to the swim centre.
Registration
Please be at the pool building entrance by 07:45 to register. Please wait outside and do not enter the building until instructed.
Parking
You have to pay in the swim centre car park and on the promenade. However, there is plenty of free on-street.
Changing and toilet facilities
You will be using the swim centre facilities. Lockers require a 20p piece, which is not refunded.
Preparing to start
When instructed you can enter the swim centre and access the changing room.
Get changed into your tri-suit or swimming costume. Have goggles ready (also hat, ear plugs etc. if you want)
Prepare your running shoes, clothes and towel ready to leave by the pool for transition.
You should bring a carrier or draw string bag to leave in transition, where you will leave your goggles, hat, towel etc. If you are using a common type of bag please attach a label with your name. The bag will be available in the changing rooms after you finish the aquathlon.
When ready you will be directed to the pool side waiting area. You will need to have your running gear with you.
There will be a copy of the event briefing that you must read.
When called forward, leave the waiting area and put your running gear with bag in transition.
Line-up next to the swim start marshal.
Swim
The sprint event swim distance is 400 metres, which is 16 lengths of the pool.
The super sprint is 200 metres / 8 lengths.
You will be shown the start and end points.
Swimmers will start at 1 minute intervals. No diving.
Transition
When you finish the swim, get out of the pool and go to the transition area.
Change into your running gear and put you swimming gear into your bag.
Go to the pool exit door and leave your bag in the identified place.
Leave the pool and head to the promenade – take your time because this is a neutral zone.
Neutral zone
You need to cross two roads after leaving the pool and starting the run. This route will be a neutral zone, which means the time taken will not form part of your overall time.
You must walk (not run) in the neutral zone. Take care when crossing the road. Use the zebra crossing.
The neutral zone finishes after you have gone down the ramp onto the promenade. This is the run start.
Run route
You will be directed onto the run route. It is all on the promenade.
The sprint event run distance is 5 km. It will be two laps of the marked course.
The super sprint event is 2.5km / one lap.
The finish line will be clearly marked.
When you finish
Take your time and hang around to support other competitors if you want.
Return to the main entrance of the swim centre and access the changing rooms as before.
Retrieve your bag containing your swimming gear.
Have a shower and get changed.
Safeguarding
This permitted triathlon event acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. This permitted triathlon event is also committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice and British Triathlon requirements.
15-year-old competitors must be accompanied by a parent or other named responsible adult the whole time. The adult cannot take part in the event. There is no junior event – all participants will take part in the same event.
Presentation
There will be a short presentation at the end of the event, after everyone has got changed.
Spectators
Spectators and supporters are very welcome as it all adds to the event atmosphere.
