GOG Invitational
Inspired by Ekiden – The Ultimate Team Relay – Run the Great Orme
Sunday 8th November 2026 – start 8am
We are inviting all the local running groups to chase miles and smiles. Inspired by the Japanese Ekiden, an end of season community celebration and social occasion.
There will be two options
- Miles race (competitive) marathon distance (5 laps)
- Smiles run (fun) metric marathon distance (3 laps) running in pairs
The main trophy event for both events will be for mixed teams. Teams for the miles race should consist of 5 people, including at least 2 females. For the smiles run it should be 6 people, including at least 1 female. However, teams of any combination can take part, including all male and female.
An option for the smiles run, is for some/all team members to run half laps (there will be a water station where handover can happen).
In Ekiden, teams carry a satin sash to handover at the end of each lap. Each team should bring something bright, bold, and visible while running! Special prize awarded for the most creative baton!
There will be a small fee to enter to cover insurance (to be confirmed, but hopefully less than £4 per runner).
Start preparing your teams and help develop the running community in North Wales.
- Miles race for faster runners. 5 laps of the Orme, (trophy event for 5 runners, at least 2 females).
- Smile run for all abilities. 3 laps of the Orme, run in pairs with ½ lap option (trophy event for 6 runners, at least 1 female).
